What Can Cause Depression

Studies show that the majority of men and women are suffering from a mental health disorder known as depression. Many people who are suffering from depression will have problems sleeping and eating. It can affect the way that they view themselves and everything around them.

No one is able to answer conclusively what can cause depression. In fact there are many different factors that could be causing it. In order to discover what the root of the problem is doctors encourage the patient to open up about their life and anything negative that has happened to them.

Some physicians believe that a person could be depressed due to their physiology or a biological depression. This means that the person is only depressed because of an imbalance of their neurotransmitters in the brain. Neurotransmitters are the chemicals in the brain that help to operate the different areas to communicate with people around them.

Probably one of the more common causes of depression is stress. Many of us have to deal with rapid change and demands from our jobs and our families. There is only so much we can take of this demanding life before we begin to snap under the pressure.

It is possible for some people to become depressed because they don’t know anything else. When you are surrounded by a family that is always depressed you pick up on the mood and find yourself in the same position for no apparent reason. Also some people learn that depression can give them the attention they want.
