Signs And Symptoms Of Nummular Eczema

Nummular eczema is a medical condition in which a rash will take form on a person that will scratch and create a design of coin shaped spots on the surface of the skin. As time progresses the rash will begin to clear and start to become scaly. Numerous people can confuse it with psoriasis and ring worm (a case of fungus). This medical skin condition can be chronic in numerous people when not dealt with.

There is no known specific cause for nummular eczema. At certain times doctors believe that an allergic reaction to medication can cause it in certain situations. Also they believe that people are more prone to this skin condition during the winter or do anything that will dry out their skin too much. This is because people who suffer from any type of eczema have extremely dry skin that can be irritated easily.

There is nothing that can cure nummular eczema – but there are many ways in which it can be controlled. Doctors may prescribe strong cortisone ointments that can be applied to the skin. Periodic dermatology exams will be used on patients who have had the condition for long periods of time. Coal tar is effective for people who have a more aggressive case. Because the rash and the legions can become infected easily the doctor might have to prescribe special antibiotics to control it if this happens.

Make sure to keep rough clothing (like wool) off your skin, certain types of soap, and to stay away from other things that will irritate the skin and make it worse. It would even be a wise move to wash your clothes using dye free and fragrance free detergent.
