Yasmin is a dosage birth control pill that was approved in May 2001 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. It has been verified to be 99% effective in preventing pregnancy if the women follows the directions cautiously and does not miss a dose. It works in similar ways to some of the more basic birth control pills.
Each pill is prepared with a certain amount of progestin and estrogen that are to be taken once a day for three weeks straight. Afterwards the women will take seven placebo pills throughout the week so that the woman can be on her period. This is the only form of birth control that contains synthetic progestin more commonly known as drospirenone.
Doctors will usually prescribe women this form of birth control if they are not able to use other forms of oral birth controls without serious side effects. It is also known to treat premenstrual dysphoric disorder. The benefits of Yasmin birth control include; decrease is menstrual symptoms, diminish amount of water retention, decrease weight gain during menstrual cycle, and the prevention of acne.
