Mobility Scooter Lifts For Your Car

Mobility scooters are much easier for people to use when compared to wheelchairs because they are easier for people to operate and to maneuver when outside. It is not uncommon for people with mobility scooters to travel to their required destination by the use of a vehicle.

Those who own mobility scooters will usually have to purchase mobility scooter lifts. When looking for a lift the first thing you need to think about is whether or not you will be riding in the van while sitting in your scooter or if you have the help or ability to move yourself from your chair to the car. There are two different models that lifts are available in; platform and rotary.

The automatic platforms can be operated with a simple push of a button. This button will make the lift raise, lower, fold, and unfold. In other words this lift is very convenient for most people because it does not require any manual work.

The semi-automatic platforms are cheaper than the automatic - but the money you save is sacrificed for convenience. While these lifts are able to raise and lower when needed it is up to you to manually fold and unfold it in order to use it.

The rotary scooter mobility lifts are the other types of lifts available and they operate by swinging the lift from side to side or up and down in order to transport and load your scooter. This is not nearly as convenient for most people.

Other things that you have to look for when buying a mobility platform is:

  • Can it be used easily on the type of car you have?
  • Do you need to modify anything and how much will it cost?
  • Is your scooter too heavy to use the lift?
  • Do you need any accessories or warranties when buying the lift?
  • What is the upkeep on the lift?
