Lifestyle Changes To Prevent Hemorrhoids

Those who have suffered through hemorrhoids understand just how painful the problem can be. If they do not do their research or ask their doctors about this problem they will just assume that this problem cannot be prevented and treated. After doing some research I learned how all of those people could be preventing hemorrhoids with a few simple lifestyle changes.

Drinking lots of water, eating larger amounts of fiber, no more straining during bowel movements, exercising, and better posture are some of the best things you can do in your everyday life that will help to prevent an onslaught of hemorrhoids.

The fiber in your diet and the extra fluids will help to prevent constipation and to decrease the amount of straining that you feel you have to do during bowel movements. Another way to help this is to use stool softeners. However, this is something that your body will learn to rely on and you don’t want that to happen. So only take them when you feel you have no other choice.

Fiber usually comes from fruits and vegetables as well as some grains. You will find that the more you eat the healthier you will feel and you might even be able to lose some weight. Losing weight will also help to prevent hemorrhoids because it will reduce the amount of pressure put onto them.

If you are not able to add the different fibrous foods into your diet or if they are not enough for you than you can try fiber supplements. Metamucil and Citrucel are the best types of fiber supplements that are over the counter and easily help. When you use these supplements you need to drink at least eight glasses of water every day. No water means you will have constipation.

Exercising is another way to reduce the amount of pressure that is placed on hemorrhoids. Another way to help you with this is to avoid sitting down or standing for long periods of time.
