The poison ivy plant may not be the most deadliest plant in the world - but it is certainly the most annoying and the most watched for. How many of us were told as children not to touch the poison ivy plant and to look out for it as we played outside? Now how many of us didn’t do this and had to suffer from the rash and blisters from it? I was definitely one of them and it was not a pleasant experience.
When you first realize that you are having symptoms caused by the poison ivy plant you need to remove all of your clothes as soon as possible and wash them before you hop into the shower. If you have touched anything or anyone while infected you need to make sure that they are washed and treated.
Washing quickly may rid your body of the poisonous oil that infects the skin. If it does not remove it completely it will still be able to remove some of it and keep the rash from spreading. The itching can be unbearable for many people and will find it hard to not scratch it. Use a wet compress to soothe the itching before applying ointment or a special treatment.
Calamine lotion is one of the most helpful creams to help soothe the itch and heal rashes and blisters from poison ivy. Whatever you do it is important that you do not cover up the rash in any way. For it to heal properly you need to let it air out. If the treatment is not working and you feel that the rash is getting worse than you need to call your doctor as you might have an allergic reaction to it.
