Puberty is a time when our bodies begin to change. We start to feel differently and sometimes that is a good idea. However, there are times when we experience changes that are not positive. Acne is one of the worst things that we can experience.
Some go through it in small stages and others will have large breakouts for many years. This medical condition will affect most people. It is not always understood why it will affect them and why some people will have severe acne that will cause scarring of the face. During acne scarring the collagen in the skin is damaged from inflammation that will change the way that the skin looks.
There are different types of acne scarring. They are boxcar scarring, ice pick scarring, and hypertrophy scarring.
Boxcar Scarring
These scars are depressed, steeply angled, and round shaped. They look very close to chickenpox scars.
Ice Pick Scarring
These scars have steep edged and are deep pitted into the skin.
Hypertrophic Scarring
These scars are more often found on the chest and back. They can be found on the surface of the skin and are thick and lumpy.
All of these scarrings (except for hypertrophy scarring) will occur more commonly on the face. When this happens they are defined as face acne scars. One of the most common signs of acne scars is discoloration. This is easy to treat - but it may take up to several years for them to completely fade away.
