Common Misconceptions Of Bad Breath

There are many methods that help to cure our bad breath or at least to diminish the fact that it is really bad. Those who are desperate enough to find any means to do this will try anything that they read. These bad breath myths will not only tell you where they think bad breath comes from and how they feel it can be eliminated.

First Myth
You will be able to recognize what bad breath that you have. Many believe that they can smell their own breath by holding their hand over the nose and mouth. Admit it we have all tried this check to see if we smell acceptable. This is in fact not possible. Because the nose and the mouths are separate and are only connected by a passageway located in the back of the throat.

There are three effective methods (that work) that helps you to check your breath. The first thing that you can do is to ask a friend if your breath smells bad. That is of course if they have the guts to smell and you have the guts to ask. If that doesn’t work you can go to your dentist and ask them to use a halimeter. This instrument is used to test your breath. The cheaper and less embarrassing way is to swab the surface of your tongue with cotton or you can use a spoon. Wait for the sample to dry and than smell it.

Second Myth
Bad breath starts in the stomach and works its way up. This myth is actually half true. Bad breath can be caused from certain problems in the stomach like digestions or bad dieting habits. However, it is mostly caused by decaying food that is stuck in the teeth and gums. This food allows the bacteria in your mouth to grow out of control.

Third Myth
You can get rid of bad breath by flossing and brushing. While this might seem true it is actually not very effective. Because most people don’t floss and do not know how to properly brush their teeth. Most people will brush their teeth way too fast and will leave behind food particles on their teeth and tongue. For better results scrub your tongue down with your toothbrush or you can use a tongue scrapper.

Fourth Myth
Mouthwash can get rid of bad breath. Sure the product might say that they can get the job done - but do you believe everything you are told? You shouldn’t! Half the time these mouthwashes will only mask the bad breath like mint do. It is only a short term fix in your time of need. The only way to cure bad breath is to have a healthy diet and good dental hygiene.
